Kara Magari is about to discover a beautiful world full of terrifying things—Ourea.

Kara, a college student still reeling from her mother’s recent death, has no idea the hidden world of Ourea even exists until a freak storm traps her in a sunken library. With no way out, she opens an ancient book of magic called the Grimoire and unwittingly becomes its master, which means Kara now wields the cursed book’s untamed power. Discovered by Ourea's royalty, she becomes an unwilling pawn in a generations-old conflict—a war intensified by her arrival. In this world of chilling creatures and betrayal, Kara shouldn’t trust anyone… but she’s being hunted and can’t survive on her own. She drops her guard when Braeden, a native soldier with a dark secret, vows to keep her safe. And though she doesn’t know it, her growing attraction to him may just be her undoing.

For twelve years, Braeden Drakonin has lived a lie. The Grimoire is his one chance at redemption, and it lands in his lap when Kara Magari comes into his life. Though he begins to care for this human girl, there is something he wants more. He wants the Grimoire.

Welcome to Ourea, where only the cunning survive.

Utterly beautiful from page 1!

If I had to describe Lichgates in just a single word it would be lavish

In a world that simply jumps off the pages, creatures who terrify your nightmares & exceed your wildest dreams, there wasn't a single aspect that I felt wasn't covered in this amazing book. Plots flowed, each character held a purpose, and I devoured extremely quick.

As soon as Kara is literally sucked into the world of Ourea when a freak storm hits, and is suddenly given a power that she never wanted. Her initial reaction, after flinging a very evil soul stealer across the room, is shock!
As Kara's journey continues and she realizes she is some sort of legend, a myth to many, with the power of the Grimoire at her finger tips, she is in for an adventure that takes over her life.  Unable to return to any type of normal, she tries to harness this strange new power flowing through her veins.....

Now for the hottie-McHotness known as Braeden!! I like his olive skin, the way he has that totally mysterious thing going on......but honestly one of my favorite moments comes in the first part of the book when he trusts Kara so completely that he lets her into his past. Something he's never shared with anyone.....to me that is huge! You can see the struggle within Braeden. The fact that he's feeling something for this human, when he knows his focus is the Grimoire.....oh to be a cunning formerly-evil Prince.
Tough.

If you haven't already pieced it together, I LOVED this book! Go, buy it it's free right now....because now I am going to be begging the author for the rest of the series to review so that I can see where this story goes!
Happy reading!

5/5

Beautiful review, Jessica! I love settings that truly come to life and "lavish" is definitely a word that makes me want to check this one out! :) Especially in this genre the vividity (is that a work? >.<) of a setting can make all of the difference. I also want to meet this Braeden fella! :D
