Vlog: Current Road Blocks

Late last night (and when I saw late, I'm talking 10:30, lol) I decided to do a vlog about something that has been weighing me down lately.....

I would not at all be surprised to think that the emotions you are having has happened to EVERY book blogger. That is the very reason I stopped accepting unsolicited review requests and the moment I stopped, book blogging became fun again.

Before I put a stop to them, I was getting requests and accepting them 10 times faster than is even capable for me to read! I had that very the same problem! If I read the summary and loved the cover… how could I say no? I can’t imagine what it would be like for an author to get their books noticed! On the flip side, when we accept a review request that gives the author hope that maybe there will be a positive review that can help them! They are eager for every review they can get, and we know it. So that adds stress, pressure, it begins to feel like a job, and then it’s not fun anymore!!!

Before I fully putting a stop to them, I would read about 20 or 30 pages. If the book didn’t grab me in those first few pages I’d move to the next but then I started to feel bad. Then I realized that I rarely found a book (unsolicited) that I enjoyed enough to use the already very little personal time I had to read it.

This is what I do now! I only guarantee to read and review a book that I’ve requested. I only accept review requests from authors that I’ve already read their books and liked. Now if I find an Indie book that I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews about I purchase the ebook since they are usually only $1 to $3. By purchasing the book don’t “feel” obligated to read and review it, in a timely manner, and I’m still supporting the author.

OH MY GOSH! This is becoming a blog post! LOL I could keep going on & on!
